Songwriter. Musician. Storyteller.
I'm a Melbourne-based songwriter, guitarist, pianist and vocalist who writes from the inside out — about the things I see, the things I feel, and the moments that stop me in my tracks.
My heart has always lived somewhere in the 70s and 80s. The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs, Stevie Wonder, Tears for Fears, Steven Wilson — these are the artists who shaped how I hear music, and they still do. Albums like Dark Side of the Moon, Abbey Road, Aja, Silk Degrees and The Seeds of Love are as alive to me now as the day I first heard them.
My own music draws from that rich well — rock, blues, soul, funk and jazz woven together into something that feels, I hope, like its own thing.
I've been in love with music since before I could play a note. A guitar at fourteen sealed the deal, and nearly five decades later that love hasn't dimmed. These days I make the first few hours of every morning my creative time — writing, recording and producing before the world wakes up and starts making demands. It's the thing I love most, so it gets the best of me first.
I write, record and produce everything myself, though I've never been precious about collaboration. Over the years I've worked with musicians both locally and from around the world to bring tracks to life — whatever a song needs, it gets.
As a writer I'm drawn to the human condition — the struggles, the contradictions, the moments of grace under pressure. Rarely a traditional love song. My first album Redemption grew out of the experience of climbing back from depression, with the title track and the closing song Scars bookending that journey. The second album Big Picture turns the lens outward — war, displacement, institutional abuse, environmental blindness, the comfortable apathy of those with the most to lose. Heavy themes, but I've always believed music is one of the few places you can say the hard things and have people actually listen.
