I cannot help but think we will look back on this period of our history with shame and regret. I wonder if we would still think it’s ok to turn away those in need if we were to meet them personally and hear their stories. It’s easy when they are faceless and unknown. It’s easy to give in to our fears of anything and anyone that is different. It’s easy to say there’s nothing I can do.

We can start by engaging our own conscience, by changing our minds. We can start by not blindly following the crowd. Then, perhaps, one day we will stop seeing ourselves as the centre of the universe, stop being manipulated by self serving politicians, and realise we are all part of The Big Picture.
